We flagged Hokubu as disputed. The problem was our source, not the region.
Hokubu was the one region on this site marked as unconfirmed. It turns out Hokubu is fine — the ten-region list we were checking it against came from a game-currency reseller, and four of its other entries are misspelled or invented.
Until today the Hokubu region page on this site carried a conflict flag. Four outlets had written up a Hokubu Region Treasure Hunt; the region breakdown we were holding them against listed ten regions and Hokubu was not among them. We published that as an open question rather than picking a side.
It resolved in the least flattering direction available: Hokubu was never the problem. Our source was.
What the flag was actually pointing at
The ten-region list we had been treating as the counterweight came from a single page on u4n.com. u4n sells in-game currency. It is not an editorial outlet, and the page reads like what it is — search filler assembled to rank for "forza horizon 6 regions".
Two properly edited sources give the same ten regions, and they agree with each other completely: Gamereactor's region-by-region map guide, built from in-game map captures, and VGC's mascot guide, written by someone who collected all 200 mascots and noted the type changes per region.

Hokubu is right there in both. It holds the player Estate. There was never a conflict.
What the reseller's list actually contained
Lining up the two lists is uncomfortable reading, because the bad one is the one we had shipped:

So of eleven region pages this site published, two had misspelled names, two were for places that appear not to exist, one real region was absent, and every terrain description traced to the same discredited page. All of it was rendered with a "sourced" label.
The check we should have run first was in a different language
There was a third list available the whole time, and it settles the question harder than either English source does. Gamerch's FH6 wiki map index lists the ten regions under the names the game actually uses in Japanese, and we had already pulled it — it is where the Japanese section of this site gets its region names.
Lined up against the English list, it maps one to one:

That last row is the thing. Hokubu is not a place name at all — 北部 is the ordinary Japanese word for "the northern part". The English region name is a romanisation of a description, which is exactly the kind of name a Japanese-set map hands you and exactly the kind of name a fabricated list does not invent. Four English outlets writing about a "Hokubu Region" and a Japanese wiki listing 北部地域 in the north of the map are not two claims that need reconciling. They are one claim in two scripts.
The same table disposes of the other two. There is no 大久保 or anything like it among the ten, so Okubou has nothing behind it. And 島ノ山 — Shimano-yama — makes the guess we hedged on in the section above no longer a guess: "Yama" is the back half of a real region name, promoted to a region of its own. The reseller's list did not mistranslate anything. It looks like it was assembled by someone reading romanised fragments and padding to a round number.
We have written this site's own rule down twice now — that a claim needs two independent sources — and both times we read "independent" as "two English gaming outlets". A second language is a much stronger independence test than a second outlet, because the failure modes do not overlap. Two English sites can quietly be copying each other. A Japanese wiki transcribing in-game text cannot be copying a currency reseller's romanisation.
The rule that would have caught this, which we wrote down and then didn't follow
Our own methodology says a single-source claim is not the same as a confirmed one. Every one of those ten rows had exactly one source. They should have been marked accordingly and they were not — because the source came in as a bulk list of ten, and ten rows arriving together feels like coverage. The one row we did flag, Hokubu, we flagged because it disagreed with the bad source. The flag was firing on the right file and pointing at the wrong line.
There is a general shape here worth naming. A bad source that gets one fact wrong announces itself, because the fact clashes with something else you know. A bad source that supplies an entire table announces nothing, because there is nothing left to clash with — it has furnished the comparison as well as the claim.
What changed on the site today
- The region table is rebuilt from Gamereactor and VGC. u4n.com is gone from the sources entirely.
- Hokubu resolves to sourced.
/regions/otaniand/regions/shimanoaare now/regions/ohtaniand/regions/shimanoyama./regions/okubouand/regions/yamaare removed./regions/legend-islandis added. - The Kinkaku-Ji Temple hunt, which we had listed with no region at all, is Ohtani — Traxion's 21 May write-up places the chest "within the Ohtani Region" in as many words.
- Terrain descriptions are cut back to what both sources support. Some are shorter and duller now. They are also true.
- The region names now have a Japanese cross-check behind them as well as two English ones, per the table above.
Two more sources turned up while writing this and neither disturbs anything: TheXboxHub's Series 3 Winter playlist guide puts that week's chest in Hokubu with the same 100,000 credits and three points, and Dot Esports places the region north of Tokyo City and notes it holds the player Estate. They are listed here for the record rather than because anything still hinges on them.
The in-game pass still has to happen, and it is still the only thing that turns any of this from sourced into re-checked by us. But the state we were in this morning — confidently wrong about four regions while flagging the one that was right — is at least over.
