Ohtani

One chest on record here · 3 landmarks both sources agree on · 25 mascots

Region facts below are second-hand, sourced inline. Never re-checked in game. Why that matters.

The one chest set in Ohtani

Ohtani has the worst agreement between our two landmark sources of any region: three entries both lists share, and two more each that the other puts somewhere else entirely. It is also where the Horizon Festival site sits, which means it is the region players see first and search least — most people have crossed it hundreds of times without looking at it. The Series 1 Summer chest was on the western path of Kinkaku-Ji Temple, one of the three landmarks nobody disputes.

25 mascots around the Festival site

25 mascots, themed on Ramen, out of 200 across the map. One barn find: the Porsche 911 Turbo 3.3, behind the Pink Stamp.

Ohtani counts: 25 mascots (Ramen theme) shown as dots, only 3 landmarks both source lists agree on shown as ticks, one barn find behind the Pink Stamp, and 1 Treasure Hunt on record.

3 named places both lists put in Ohtani

  • Kinkaku-ji Temple
  • Horizon Festival Site
  • Matsumi Great Bridge

Two entries are contested and one is a naming difference. mapmaster.io puts Ruriko-ji Temple here and Game8 puts it in Minamino; Game8 puts Radio Towers here and mapmaster.io puts them on Legend Island; and the festival car park is Festival Site Parking Lot on one list and Horizon Festival Car Meet on the other.

More land than road

Home of the Horizon Festival site — early-game hub, more open land than road.

VGC describes Ohtani as small and easy to speed across, with a lot more land than roads — which matches the Japanese description of gentle plains and country lanes.

Gamereactor notes that the one race left in Ohtani after everything else is done is the Drag Race near the Festival site.

Ohtani is 大谷地域 in a Japanese client

大谷地域は、なだらかな平原地帯と田園道路が広がる中央エリア。

Two sources, and Japanese search suggests it alongside 宝探し. 地域一覧.

Asked about Ohtani

Which region is the Kinkaku-Ji hunt in?

Ohtani. Traxion’s write-up of that hunt says Kinkaku-Ji Temple within the Ohtani Region, and the in-game hunt is called the Ohtani Region hunt. We had it as unconfirmed for a while because we had only checked one source.

Why do the two landmark lists disagree so much here?

We do not know. Ohtani borders the middle of the map and both contested entries sit near a boundary, so region attribution is the likely culprit rather than either source inventing a place. That is a guess.

More land than roads — does that help or hurt a search?

Hurts, on balance. Open ground means you can drive straight at a photographed object instead of following the road network, but it also means the photo has fewer road features in it to recognise in the first place.
